AFC Playoff Outlook |
Its that time of the year where the Playoff races are starting to tighten up and the contenders are starting to pull away from the pretenders so here is your AFC Outlook.
AFC East:
The Bills lead the AFC East by 2 games over the Patriots in what is considered the weakest divison in the MFFL as the Bills have the only winning record
The 4-6 Patriots are the only other team in the East that could possibly catch the Bills, They lost a heartbreaker in OT 48-45 to the Bills a week ago and if they are to have any shot they have to beat the Bills in New England at the end of the season.
AFC North
This division is really a 2 horse race between the Steelers and the Brows with the early edge going to the Steelers thanks to sweeping the Season series against the Browns. Both teams stand at 7-3 and look poised for a late season finish. The Steelers will have to go another week without Ben Roethlisberger so it will be intresting to see if they can keep pace with the Browns
Despite 2 losses to the Steelers the Browns are hanging tough losing just 1 game outside of the divison. Brady Quinn has been having a suprising rookie season and looks to get Rookie of the Year award but more importantly is looking to take Cleveland to the post season for the 1st time in 5 years.
AFC South
The Titans are the frontrunner in the AFC South at 8-2 4-0 in the division thanks to a great running attack of Chris Henry, Chris Brown and Vince Young. They don't have much breathing room as they are just 1 game ahead of the Texans so it will be intresting to see if they can keep it up
The Texans at 7-3 have had a great 1st season with new QB Matt Shaub, however thanks to the season ending injury of Andre Johnson at the beginning of the year the Texans passing attack has been lacking. The Texans have 2 huge games coming up that should decide their fate vs the Browns and Titans.
The Jags are down but not out at 5-5 on the year but face some tough teams down the stretch so if they are to get back into the playoff hunt they are going to have to have a great finish tot he season.
AFC West
The Oakland Raiders have returned to greatness as the Silver and Black lead in what most people thing is the leagues toughest divison. Jamarcus Russel and company are sitting at 8-2 with the Chargers and Broncos breathing down their necks. The Raiders still have games at Mile High in Denver and at QUall Comm stadium in San Diego and those 2 games should determine the Raiders fate
The Chargers have gone out and brought in talent for a superbowl or bust mentailty. Ladanian Tomlinson leads the league in rushing and Brett Favre is looking for 1 last shot to get his 2nd superbowl ring. However if the Chargers are going to keep pace with the Raiders they must win the game vs the Raiders at home in week 17
The Denver Broncos sit at 3rd place with a 6-4 record in the AFC West. The offense has sputtered in recent week but the defense has picked them up. Despite a 6-4 record its been an up and down year for the Broncos who just look to get some consistency going. If the Broncos are to keep pace with the Chargers and Raiders they must continue to win the divison games which they have 1 vs the Chargers and Raiders both on the road and play 4 of their final 6 games on the road
NFC Outlook will be posted later in the week |
